Meet the Hero Rickshaw Puller Who Returned 6 Lakh Taka Left by a Passenger in Dhaka

Dhaka, May 1, 2025 — In a city often drowned in noise, rush, and indifference, one small act of honesty has sparked a big conversation.

Mohammad Harun, a 42-year-old rickshaw puller from Mirpur, became an unexpected hero yesterday after he returned a bag containing Tk 6 lakh that a passenger accidentally left in his rickshaw. The story, first shared by a local Facebook page, has now gone viral, earning Harun praise from across the country.

“I have two daughters. I know what it means to lose something so big,” Harun told BD Today, wiping sweat from his forehead after a long day of pulling passengers through Dhaka’s traffic. “Halal taka is the only taka I want to bring home.”

The passenger, Rafiq Islam, a small businessman, had just withdrawn the money to pay for a shipment of electronics. “When I realized the bag was gone, I thought everything was finished. But two hours later, this man showed up outside my office with the bag intact,” Rafiq said, still emotional. “I offered him a reward. He refused.”

Harun’s story has caught fire on social media. From celebrities to school kids, people are hailing him as a symbol of what Bangladesh still stands for—honesty, dignity, and kindness in the face of hardship.

Dhaka North City Corporation has since reached out to Harun and offered to fund the education of his daughters. “We need more stories like this,” said DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam. “In a time when negativity spreads fast, let’s share hope just as quickly.”

Why It Matters
In a country where news often focuses on corruption and chaos, Harun’s quiet nobility is a reminder that heroes don’t wear capes. Sometimes, they wear lungis and ride through the city’s dust with hearts of gold.

Let’s not just clap on social media. Let’s find our own ways to be a little more like Harun today.
